Marivi Da Silva
When? Monday - Thursday, 9.30am - 11am
Where? RJC Dance, The Mandela Centre
Marivi’s class will offer the possibility to explore the mechanics and potential of your body through a fusion of different techniques. Throughout a strong, physical session, dancers will explore dynamics, qualities of movement and different spatial levels through combining standing and floor work and weight shifting, with the incorporation of acrobatic elements. The class will build from a short warm up and will include body conditioning and stretching, finalising the session with an extended choreographic sequence which will combine the elements explored in class.
Marivi Da Silva, originally from Barcelona, began her early training in rhythmic gymnastics competing at national level. She trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and during her training danced with choreographers Debbi Purtill and Sonia Rodríguez. Since graduating, she has performed with Rita Marcalo’s company, Instant Dissidence, and in 2012 founded DeNada Dance Theatre with Carlos Pons Guerra. She assists Pons Guerra as rehearsal director for the company and in his external commissions. Marivi is also a freelance teacher and lecturer in Contemporary Dance Technique and Embodying Historical Dance Practices at Leeds Beckett University.
