“Movement and dance for me is a way to engage with ourselves and to connect with our surroundings. It is to communicate and tobring awareness into what we think and what we do. I work with flow and attention, space and time, that then allow us to move, to engage and to investigate our perception of ourselves as human beings in relation to our personal needs and desires. I work with both set material and improvisation.”
Toke Broni Strandby is originally from Denmark but has had the UK as his home now for a little bit more than 7 years. Since graduating from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds - 2014, he has been working full time as a Dance Artist with Candoco Dance Company, London - at the same time as delivering workshops and teaching all over the world. Performances include work by Hetain Patel, Thomas Hauert, Jerome Bel, Trisha Brown, Yasmeen Godder, Tim Casson and Merce Cunningham, touring nationally and internationally. As a dance teacher and facilitator Toke has taught and worked with dancers in many contexts and places from community dance programs, festivals, professionals, dance companies to delivering classes and examinating 3rd year conservatoire students. All with a shared passion for movement and creativity.
