Contemporary dancing, dance dance dance, contemporary dancing...

Spring break is over and we are back again, excited to have been premiering yet another venue: the Dance Studio Leeds. Wohoo different dance studios! The Dance Studio Leeds has two lovely little studios hidden away in Mabgate Mills, halfway between Chapeltown and Quarry Hill. Much like the students of Leeds do their Otley Run, ProDancers of Leeds now regularly travel the stretch between Quarry Hill, Mabgate and Chapeltown, only with more wholesome activities like CONTEMPORARY DANCING on the schedule. Like Nils Bech would say: Set your body free from pressure, bad relations, and destruction; everybody knows a dancer is the key to satisfaction. This is your contemporary dance inspiration for the week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jiFSeAOUqg

You can't quite see him in this picture (as Kate is covering his face with her hand) but it is the eminent Gary Clarke we have had the honour of having in the studio this week. His class flowed between different styles and inspirations; yoga, Cunningham, release, Pilates, improvisation and Limón, and ended with a very jazzy and expressive phrase that we had much fun with.  As Gary is practically based around the corner, we’re hoping to have him back soon. In fact, we will. Due to unforeseen circumstances we had to cancel the last class of the week, but Gary has kindly offered to come and deliver it on another occasion. So keep your eyes open for a week of four classes some time in the imminent future.

This is me in action!! Wowzers! I look like I have a kind of weird body shape but it gives you the feeling of MOVEMENT, right?

So far there has been 11 weeks of ProDance classes, which means 15 more to go. If you are curious about who is coming to teach, almost all of the teachers are now up on the calendar for you to  have a peek. The pilot runs until the end of July so if you have burning desires to move this is your chance. Nils Bech would probably say: If someone wants to dance give them space and the chance. Nils has just the kind of attitude we like at ProDanceLeeds.

ALSO. I hope you haven’t missed that the brilliant Kerry Nicholls is arriving in Leeds on the 2 of May to do a workshop. There are still a few spaces available, but you will have to pre-book. Do that here. We promise, it will be excellent.
