Where? All classes at Yorkshire Dance
Natalia Iwaniec teaches Gaga: These classes are taught by dancers who have worked closely with Ohad Naharin in Batsheva Dance Company. The layering of familiar movements with Gaga tasks presents dancers with fresh challenges, and throughout the class, teachers prompt the dancers to visit more unfamiliar places and ways of moving as well. Gaga deepens dancers’ awareness of physical sensations, expands their palette of available movement options, enhances their ability to modulate their energy and engage their explosive power, and enriches their movement quality with a wide range of textures. Gaga classes are open to students ages 16+.We are moving without any stop, all together, to ride on on-going movement that is moving inside our bodies constantly.
Jennifer's class is based on a strong belief that dancing is enjoyable and physical and intelligent in equal measures. Emphasis is placed on patterns as sensory and tactile, giving different angles and insight into individual possibility and preferences. These patterns are a means to an end - helping us find useful information with our bodies, not to remember ‘steps’ or co-ordinations, but to find connections that can sustain us as we dance. Sometimes class starts from the ground, supporting organisation and clarity through developmental and evolutionary movement patterns. Sometimes class grows out of relational play with others or the space we share. End sequences are offered as templates for individual play and experimentation. Improvisation is always welcome.
