Who? Mon-Tues: Rosemary Spencer, Wed-Fri: Giulia Montalbano
Where? Northern School of Contemporary Dance
When? All classes run 9.15-10.45am
Rosemary teaches Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT). SRT is a pioneering approach to dance, movement and creative process that has evolved from the simple principle that when we are releasing physical tension, we can move with greater freedom, power and articulation.Through guided imagery, improvisation and hands-on partner studies you will explore technical movement principles such as multi-directional alignment, suppleness, suspension, economy and autonomy. Habitual holding patterns can be let go of and new movement possibilities found while cultivating greater kinesthetic awareness.
Giulia's class is for anyone who want to explore the sense of freedom and fluidity of their own body. With a gentle warm up, combined with some somatic exercises and some led improvisation, there will be a close interaction between Release and Skinner Release Technique. The fundamental concept and goal is to let your body feel relaxed, engaged and strong without forcing it, so that you can use the right amount of tension and relaxation. All this leads to seeing your body in a different way, away from our usual habits and how we interact with people and within the space.
