Vanessa Grasse

When? Monday 31st October - Friday 4th November 10.00-11.30am

Where? Dance Studio Leeds

Vanessa will share some of the process from her recent research which focuses on group dynamics, self-organising and collaborative systems. Grounded in Contact Improvisation practice, the class will start with guided improvisations on our own, with a partner and as a group. Guided imagery will invite and support us to explore our own movement pathways whilst allowing us to tangle our paths with others. We will play with different ways to move in contact with one or more partners and we will encourage continuity in how we trace our movement and our attention. We will also playfully explore falling, rolling, sliding, climbing and flying both through guided explorations and proposed movement patterns.

Vanessa is a dance artist from Sicily based in Leeds. She is currently working as a dancer with Turvey World Dance and as choreographer with A Quiet Word Theatre. She teaches release based technique classes, improvisation, Contact Improvisation and creative movement for universities, professionals and wider communities. Her teaching is grounded in somatic movement research and influenced by her study of improvisation and Contact Improvisation with practitioners like Lisa Nelson, Julyen Hamilton, Daniel Lepkoff and Kirstie Simson. She has taught as a part time and visiting lecturer at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, York St John University, Leeds Metropolitan University amongst others and she is currently organising and teaching regular Contact Improvisation classes at NSCD in Leeds.
